Thursday March 22nd, Friends of Minidoka was awarded $280,378 in a two-for-one matching grant from the Japanese American Confinement Sites Grant Program to reconstruct a guard tower at Minidoka. The guard tower is a two-year project that will restore the entrance of the camp to more closely resemble what former incarcerees witnessed when confined at Minidoka. The tower will be constructed with the same materials as originally created. Students from the Construction Management Department in the Boise State University School of Engineering will oversee the installation with the help of NPS staff. Only 17 project were selected out of 42 applications. Thank you to the selection committee for choosing our project for funding!
